YCS is an International Movement.
The visit of a YCS leader form Germany in 1961 was India’s first contact with the YCS.
In 1962, YCS cells were formed in some schools of Chennai with the help of Miss Betty King, A YCW extension worker.
In 1968, the guidelines of the YCS movement in India were outlined. In 1969, the Catholic Bishop Conference of India (CBCI) officially recognized the movement, and appointed the first national animator.
From 28th December, 1969 to 1st Jasnuary,1970, the first national council of YCS- India was conducted in Pune. In 1970, YCS International granted membership to YCS-India.
Y.S.M(Young Student’s Movement including non- Christians)was accepted into YCS- INDIA, thus becoming YCS/YSM India.
YCS movement started and was introduced in Shillong in 1988.
The regional office of the YCS Shillong is Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai.
Motto Of YCS- “Spread The Light”.
YCS is a student movement. Students at various levels (cell, unit, Diocese,Region and Nation) undertake and hold responsibility in terms of leadership and decision making in consultation with their animators.

• Orientation at least twice a year
• Social Visits and help to be rendered to poor families.
